Stevenage is a medium sized town located north of London, just off the A1(M) motorway, it has a population of around 80,000 and was designated as the first of the 'New Towns' in 1946 with 6 self-contained neighbourhoods, the first of which was completed in 1951.
However the town has an ancient history and stands beside a Roman road, it was called Stigenace in the Domesday Book (1086).
